The Southern Tier Sangha (STS) is a meditation group established in 2009 that meets weekly on Thursdays at Noon and 6:30PM. (View OMC’s main calendar here.) “Sangha” commonly refers to a group of meditators who inspire and assist one another on their spiritual journeys.
Why do people join a meditation group?
Generally, many people are drawn to meditation because they want their lives to be a bit better. For some, this means reducing stress and finding more serenity and contentment. For others, it might mean overcoming emotional disturbances and finding the “space” to be patient and more skillfully relate to others. Some come to meditate to explore the nature of self and one’s inherent qualities of wisdom and compassion. Group practice augments and strengthens one’s day-to-day personal practice.
STS meditation sessions focus on the compassionate removal of one’s own and other’s suffering and discontentment. Congregating weekly deepens one’s understanding in how to live mindfully, compassionately and joyfully.
Meditation sessions are free and open to the public. We normally meditate for two twenty minute periods with discussion in between and tea following. Persons joining us for the first time are requested to kindly arrive by 11:45AM or 6:15PM on Thursdays for a brief orientation.
