The Olean Meditation Center to offer Nature Photography Workshop

The Olean Meditation Center will present a “Nature Photography Workshop” from 10:30 a.m. to Noon, Saturday, May 18 on the beautiful grounds of the center at 2275 Dugan Rd., Olean, NY 14760.

Spring has blossomed in radiant color and contour on the Olean Meditation Center’s 11 acres. Rushing streams, birds, peepers, rabbits, deer, flowering cherry trees all cast against the gently rising slope of one of the area’s wooded mountains will give participants an abundance of natural beauty to photograph. Participants are invited to bring their cameras or cell phones.

The workshop will be led by Charles Walker, Professor Emeritus of Psychology at St. Bonaventure University.

After winning third place in a New York Times photo competition in 1970, his photography advanced.  He has exhibited in local galleries including the Image City Gallery in Rochester.

Dr. Walker’s careful balancing of light and shadow within a creative composition offer a unique experience of heuristic transcendence. He will demonstrate photography’s use for meditation and a deeper engagement with others.

“Photography is built on a foundation of technical knowledge and skill, but also calls for a willingness to open your eyes to see the world in a new light,” he said.

Dr. Walker is the President of the Twin Tier Camera Club.
